Cape Clear is an Island 8 miles off the coast of West Cork, 3 miles long by 1 mile wide. A forty-five minute ferry ride from Baltimore by ferry, brings you in to North Harbour. Cape Clear’s neighbour, the famous Fastnet Rock and lighthouse is to the west, the loom of it’s light at night, a comfortable reassurance. The venues for the festival are in various locations around the Island (see map).
A good bit of walking is involved, a short steep hill rewards you with a wonderful view of South Harbour, and three of the venues.

The long steep hill is well worth the walk, with spectacular views all round. Allow anything from 20 mins to 40 mins to get to the Main Evening Concerts. Also the Irish Day “Lá Scéalaíochtá agus Scoraíochta, is in the same building, Coláiste Chiaráin.

A certain level of fitness is required to fully enjoy this festival.

Give yourself that bit of extra time for stress-free walking, allowing you to look around and enjoy the views.
Also keep well in to the side of the road when you hear a car coming.

Bring strong footwear, sturdy waterproofs, torch… and a sense of humour. Leave behind phones and recording devices.

There is a Taxi – Minibus Service, for those who need it, but it becomes under fierce pressure during the festival.

Check the forecast, you may need sunhats and raincoats.

Cape Clear is also a place where people live and work, please respect people’s privacy.
