Cape Clear Island

Cape Clear is an Island 8 miles off the coast of West Cork, 3 miles long by 1 mile wide. A forty-five minute (or twenty minute) ferry ride for foot passengers only, from Baltimore, brings you in to North Harbour.

Cape Clear’s neighbour, the famous Fastnet Rock and lighthouse is to the west, the loom of it’s light at night, was once a comfortable reassurance.

You can visit the Island and enjoy its beauty, and friendly atmosphere. A good bit of walking is involved, a short steep hill rewards you with a wonderful view of South Harbour. The long steep hill is well worth the walk, with spectacular views all round. Allow anything from 20 to 40 mins to get to the Church, Museum and the Goat Farm.

Give yourself that bit of extra time for stress-free walking. Also keep well in to the side of the road when you hear a car coming…preferably all on the same side when you are in a group!!

There is a Taxi – Minibus Service, for those who need it.

Check the forecast, you may need sunhats and raincoats.

Cape Clear is also a place where people live and work, please respect people’s privacy
