25th -28th October Storytelling Workshop 2024

with Ivar Nygaard from Norway

Imagine yourself on the secluded island of Whiddy, in the calm waters of beautiful Bantry Bay, on the edge of the Atlantic ocean…

Join Ivar Nygaard for a storytelling workshop.

A highly experienced storyteller from Stavanger in Norway, Ivar has a background in cultural history and the visual arts. His performances often have a historical content, presented from a somewhat unusual angle and with humour and imagination where facts are lacking.

“Use Your Own Words”

-Warming up, why and how

-Breathing. voice, stage

  • Why diaphragmatic breathing is so important
  • Find your voice
  • On standing in front of others. Why use your own words.

How to create a story from scratch

  • text, pictures and memory
  • creating from the unknown

…and lots of storytelling

The workshop will aim to share the joy of storytelling and working with stories, cover performance techniques, stagecraft, and provide tools to handle nervousness in front of an audience. We will learn techniques to become more confident and increase our skills to deliver good stories. Above all, we will have a good time together with friendly people in a safe and inclusive atmosphere.

Exercise your creative muscle, gain some new ideas and have fun while doing so.

Ivar will share his knowledge and unique insight into Norse mythology and the wonderful Norwegian/Scandinavian storytelling traditions. He will demonstrate the techniques used in telling these stories and how they are transferable to contemporary storytelling. Dipping into Aesop’s fables and other storytelling traditions Ivar will help us to unleash our imaginations and creativity.

Open to all but limited to 18 participants.
