Cork Folktales by Kate Corkery

Renowned Cork storyteller Kate Corkery shares some of her favourite stories from her book Cork Folktales, bringing to life tales of fairies, saints, giants and legendary characters from Cork’s storytelling heritage. With years of experience collecting, preserving and publishing folktales, Kate offers a fascinating glimpse into the people, places and voices behind these stories.
Come and listen to tales of wonder, humour, magic and mischief, as Kate celebrates the living tradition of storytelling and the remarkable stories that have been passed down through generations.

This event is approximately 1 hour long followed by a 30 minute Q&A session.

    Gerry Clancy is a member of Storytellers of Ireland, and the Dublin based storytelling group “Story-O”. A regular contributor to Cork and Dublin Yarn Spinners. He was featured on the Dublin Yarnspinners CD “15 Years of Dublin Yarnspinners” which was released in 2011. Gerry is a visual artist and professional consultant for the arts industry.

    As an artist his work has featured in a number of exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Gerry has also been a Co-Director Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival from 2012 to 2016.

    Kate Corkery is an Irish storyteller with an international reputation for her work in storytelling. She has performed in countless schools, libraries, theatres and festivals across the world, delighting audiences of all ages. As award winning storyteller-in-residence at The Irish Cultural Centre, London, Kate has run storytelling clubs, festivals, workshops and training courses.

    She is a founding member of ‘EVERYDAY MAGIC’ – Storytelling for London Schools, one half of dynamic Afro Caribbean/Celtic duo ‘SPUD & YAM’, and a popular voice worldwide on SUPERGREATKIDSSTORIES podcast.

    Kate loves to collect and share stories from Ireland and is author of Cork FolkTales. Her highly acclaimed FATE commissioned show Sweet Shop on the Shore, set in her home town of Passage West, won outstanding storytelling performance at the BASE awards and has gone on to tour far and wide. Kate was a featured teller for The Moth & Butterfly International Festival of Improvisation & Storytelling in February 2026.
