How do I get to Cape Clear Island?

Cape Clear is an island located 12 km (approx. 45 minutes by ferry) off the South West coast of Ireland. A regular boat/ferry runs from the village of Baltimore. Allow plenty of time to park the car, enjoy the village refreshments and amenities, and get yourselves to the ferry. It doesn’t wait for you, if it’s going… it’s gone.

From Cork: The nearest airport is Cork International Airport which is located 58 miles (93 Km) or 1 hr 45 minutes by car from Baltimore. Cork airport is about 15 minutes outside Cork City.

From Dublin: Dublin International Airport is located 360 km or 4 hrs 45 from Baltimore by car.

From Shannon: Shannon Airport is located 197 km or 3 hrs 12 from Baltimore by car.

By Bus: The best way to travel to Cape by bus is to go from Cork City (which can be reached by regular trains from Dublin). Bus Éireann operates a bus, Bus 237, from outside Kent station in Cork to Skibbereen (Stop 249701). From here, a bus leaves to Baltimore three times a day, the earliest at 13.30pm. For more info timetables click HERE

How do I get around Cape Clear Island?

Walking is best for enjoying the fresh air and scenery! Cape Clear also has 2 electric bus that do loops around the island during the festival weekend. You can find the bus waiting at the harbour when a ferry arrives. They operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Buses will also run in the evenings for transporting people to the evening events.

One bus takes 4 passengers; the other bus takes 6. Due to the restricted spaces available on buses, we encourage visitors to please leave these available to those that need it most, and walk were possible. Please note, that our beautiful Cape Clear Island is hilly, so keep this in mind when considering your visit and the amount of time needed to get to some of the further away venues.
