Step Into The Story – A Family Storytelling Event
Join master storytellers Len Cabral and Maria Buckley Whatton for a lively adventure through tales that span continents and cultures. Len brings to life African, Caribbean, and Native American folktales from his Cape Verdean heritage, while Maria shares charming stories from the British Isles. Together, they weave a tapestry of fun, mischief, and wonder, inviting kids and families to dive right into the joy of storytelling.

Ticket Tip: You need to book a ticket for this event. There are limited tickets available on the door so book in advance online to avoid disappointment. Ticket holders get priority into events, but please arrive 15mins before the event, if you are late your spot may be given to another visitor.
Ferry Tip: You can also get the Saturday morning ferry leaving Baltimore at 10.45am, arriving around 11.30am. The venue is approximately a 5 minute walk on the edge of the harbour you arrive at. A map of the island and our venues will be located near the harbour and in our programme brochures. Please note that ferry seats are limited, book in advance to ensure you get yours! Simone SchümmelfederMCSimone is a storyteller, writer and teacher from Germany. In 2006 she started to work as a storyteller and also published her first children’s book together with her twin sister Silke.
In 2011, with the Irish storyteller Michael Phelan, she founded StoryGate and performs in schools, libraries and on festivals. She also works closely with the Goethe-Institute in Dublin and combines storytelling with language teaching.
Simone is an active member of the international storytelling ensemble Story-O and takes part in their vibrant and imaginative performances. She has been a teller at Cape Clear over the years.

Len Cabral is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning storyteller and author who has been engaging and entertaining audiences with his storytelling performances for more than four decades.
He is the recipient of the National Storytelling Network 2001 Circle of Excellence Oracle Award, Honored by Johnson & Wales University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2000 and the recipient of the 2016 Pell Award, and most recently recipient of the 2023 NABS Brother Blue Circle of Elders Award. This award, named in honor of Dr. Hugh “Brother Blue” Morgan, is given to NABS members as a recognition of their contributions to Black storytelling.

Maria Buckley Whatton is a treasured award-winning British Storyteller and fiction writer who is renowned for her compelling, vibrant performances.
She grew up in Liverpool in an Irish family where traditional stories were passed down. She brings a quick-witted spark to her inclusive performances and an authentic respect for the cherished tales she tells.“A gifted and spellbinding Storyteller. You can hear a pin drop. Mesmerising.”
